Enugu Air, Nigeria’s newest regional airline, is set to commence operations on Sunday, July 7, 2025, marking a significant milestone for the South-East region’s aviation and business landscape. The airline’s debut is expected to enhance connectivity, boost tourism, and stimulate economic activities across the region.
Headquartered in Enugu, Enugu Air will initially operate domestic routes, linking major cities including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano. The airline has indicated plans to expand to regional West African destinations in the coming months.
The official launch will take place at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour
Speaking at a press briefing in Enugu, the Commissioner for Transportation, Enugu State, Dr Obi Ozor, said Enugu Air is a key component of Governor Peter Mbah’s vision for a modern, integrated transportation system, aimed at positioning Enugu as a major aviation hub in Nigeria. He described the airline’s launch as a “dream fulfilled” and a strategic step toward addressing the longstanding challenge of limited air travel options for the Southeast.
“Our mission is to provide reliable, safe, and affordable air services that will not only connect Enugu and the South-East to the rest of Nigeria but also support the region’s economic resurgence,” He stated.
The airline’s fleet comprises brand-new Embraer jets (E170 and E190 series) known for their fuel efficiency, comfort, and suitability for regional routes. Enugu Air promises competitive fares and customer-focused service, positioning itself as a major player in Nigeria’s growing aviation sector.
The launch has been met with optimism from business leaders and stakeholders across the South-East. According to some stakeholders who spoke to the press, the airline’s entry is “a welcome development that will ease the burden of travel for entrepreneurs, investors, and visitors to the region.”
The Enugu State Government has also thrown its weight behind the venture, highlighting its potential to create jobs, attract investment, and position Enugu as a key hub in the nation’s aviation map.
Maiden flights are scheduled to take off from Akanu Ibiam International Airport on Sunday, with inaugural ceremonies expected to draw dignitaries, aviation stakeholders, and members of the public.
Enugu Air’s launch underscores the growing ambition of Nigeria’s regional aviation players as they work to bridge connectivity gaps and support national development.
